Finding Reason

The other day I was getting ready to go to the gym and train my legs when I stopped and asked myself – “What’s the Point?”

This morning my alarm went off at 4:15am as it was time for me to go to work. And again I found myself asking myself – “What’s the Point?”

And as I sit hear writing this week’s blog and wonder how many people, if any, will read my work, I can’t help but ask once more – “What’s the Point?”

Looking for Answers

Now ofcourse the questions above could easily be answered. I go to the gym to train my legs because I want to have strong, decent looking legs. I wake up early to go to work so that I can support myself and provide a comfortable lifestyle for those around me. And I write my blogs because I enjoy writing and regardless if only one person reads my work, I’m doing what I love to do. And although these answers do provide me with a temporary purpose for the task that I’m doing, I still find myself wondering at times – “What’s the Point?”

I mean seriously, I already have pretty decent looking legs and I can squat over 400lbs for reps. Yes, I wake up early to go to work, however the reality is that I don’t really need to wake up as early now that I am more financially secure with myself and my business. And sure, I like writing my weekly blogs, but I would much rather use this time towards doing something that I know will generate more potential clients and investors for our business.

Alas, I find myself left with a very confusing conundrum……I don’t know if there’s a point!

The Motivating Factor

I’d be lying if I said that making money is not a motivating factor as to why I work so much. I’d also be lying if I said that improving upon my own aesthetics is not a motivating factor as to why I diet and exercise so hard. And I would be lying if I said that being known as one of the best at what I do in my industry was not a motivating factor as to why I’m so interactive with our own clientele on a regular basis. Yes, I want money, power and respect. And yes, I feel that I deserve all three. But what keeps me motivated, to keep training hard, working endless hours, and provide the absolute best care and quality customer service to our entire clientele base, is that I also feel that I haven’t yet earned all three.

Finding Purpose

Truth be told, I’m now fortunate enough to be at a point in my life where if I wished to cut back on my working hours and spend less time in the gym, I could easily do so. I could also scale back on my own training, as I have no current fitness competitions on the horizon. However even though money, power and respect are motivating factors in my life, they’re not the only motivating factors as to why I refuse to take my foot off the gas pedal moving forward. My goals are bigger now then they were 5 years ago. My perspective on life has changed. I no longer desire to retire at an early age, simply because I would have nothing to do. I need a purpose to get up each morning and that purpose includes helping people change their lives for the better. This purpose gives me reason as to why I get up so early, why I train so hard, and why I want to be considered the best at what I do. So whenever I start to question my life choices, I make sure to remind myself of this purpose. Because no amount of money, power or respect will provide me with as much self fulfilment as helping someone live a longer, more productive and healthier life.
