Let’s Talk About Sex!

Unless you have been living under a rock or in a secluded cave for the past decade, you’ve most likely heard that regular exercise can help reduce the risk of chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis, just to name a few. Working Out consistently can also have a positive effect on our mental health as well, as exercise has been shown to not only increase blood flow to the brain, but it also helps by releasing endorphins, which are the body’s own natural antidepressant. This in turn can assist people who are coping with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and chronic fatigue.

But did you know that more and more studies are beginning to show that regular exercise may have another, more surprising effect on our overall health and wellbeing?

And that effect has to do with role that exercise plays when it comes to our sex lives!

Better in Bed

Want to be the bomb in the bedroom? You can read all the instructional manuals and watch all the How-To videos you like, but if you’re not in good shape, you’re not going to have anybody begging for a second helping in the sack. When the clothes come off, a lean, muscular, fit physique is not only aesthetically pleasing to your partner; it also enhances your own optimal performance in the love-making department (yes…ugh, I just said love-making).

Ensures You’re UP for the Occasion

Men, listen up! You can pop one of those little blue pills when the moment is right…or you can get a boost the natural way. When it comes to keeping the blood flowing to the parts that need it the most during sex, exercise is hard to beat. Whether it’s a heart-pumping spin class or an intense weight training session, vigorous physical activity will help keep the blood coursing through your veins when things start to heat up between the sheets (I’m really on it with the zingers tonight!). And the better the flow, the better you’ll grow! (Even I can’t believe I just said that though…)

Ladies That Lift

When it comes to women, recent studies have found that those who are physically active report greater sexual desire, arousal, and satisfaction than women who are sedentary. These same studies have also shown that women who exercise regularly are likely to feel more sexually desirable then those women who do not exercise as often or at all, which can lead to overall better sex.

Going The Distance

Good sex requires a high amount of physical effort and exertion. Running out of steam half way through your sexual session is a sure fire way to kill the mood, and perhaps even any future opportunities for a repeat performance. Prolonging the experience with your partner, prolongs the physical pleasure for you both. The better shape you’re in, the longer you’ll be able to perform. So make sure to get those daily cardiovascular sessions in at the gym or on the track!

Boosts You Confidence

Having a well developed and proportionate physique, will leave you feeling good about yourself when your clothes start coming off in the bedroom (or wherever else the mood hits you and your partner). Generally speaking, people who are more physically fit, see themselves as more desirable and proficient at pleasing their partner. So make sure to hit those weights often for a physique that will give you the confidence to perform the best when it counts.

Even though many of the topics covered above may seem vain and egotistical, they’re all accurate and do have some truth to them. Yes, sex is much more then just having a physical connection with the person who you are doing it with, but we cannot deny that physical attractiveness does play a role when it comes to overall sexual desire. Regular exercise can help you feel more confident and energized both inside and outside of the bedroom, which can improve sex. When you feel good about yourself, and about how your partner sees you physically, you’re going to be more relaxed and less distracted.

And at the end of the day if all my preaching and lecturing about better health isn’t enough motivation to get you to the gym or out for a run, then perhaps a blog about how exercising can help you achieve better sex will.
