LIVING WITH COVID-19

Well, it’s been over 4 months since COVID-19 became a commonly used word in our vocabulary.

It’s been over 2 months since the first Canadian COVID-19 case was announced.

It’s been over 2 weeks since my home town Province of Vancouver, British Columbia declared a state of emergency.

And It’s been a hell of a long time since I’ve had a good night’s sleep.

How Does One Prepare For a Global Pandemic?

Despite all the chaos and turmoil that has been occurring all around the world these last couple of months, I’ve tried my absolute best to remain as positive as I can possibly be. As I mentioned in my previous blog, I’m not ignorant to the fact that the COVID-19 Crisis, is a very serious situation. I understand that as of today, Thursday, April 2nd, 2020, there has been 896,450 confirmed cases and 45,526 deaths across the globe. And I’m sure by the time this blog is released, those number will rise once again.

However, my parents have always raised me to be an optimist. And therefore from a very young age, I was always taught to make the best out of any situation regardless of how bad that situation might be. The problem is that as much knowledge and wisdom that my parents have shared with me over the years, they never quite prepared me for a global pandemic.

Looking at the Glass Half Full

I, like all of you, DESPISE the Coronaviruses. I’m sad to hear that so many people are dying. I’m frustrated to learn that so many more people continue to get infected and sick. I’m concerned to see that so many people are losing their jobs. And as selfish as it may sound, I’m mad to have to work in isolation and remain quarantined for the better part of my days.

Yet, as I discussed previously in an earlier Facebook Post on our Group Page, there have been a few positives that have come out of the COVID-19 Situation that I feel should be addressed. There is already enough doom and gloom in society today. Therefore I want to dedicate the remainder of this week’s blog to the positives in which I have experienced during the past few months since COVID-19 decided to enter our world.

TALKING Makes A Comeback!

As most of our clients know, we recently started a YOUTUBE Channel last week (Nick Cosgrove Forever Fit Performance). The channel itself is dedicated to speaking with other professionals and just everyday people that I believe have an interesting story to tell. We are now 10 episodes in, and to be completely honest, I’m having so much fun talking with each and every guest that comes on our channel. I’ve always been a fairly social person, I mean you kind of have to be when you work in my line of work. However once COVID-19 forced me to stop working with clients on the floor due to practicing Social Distancing, I began to feel very lonely and isolated. Hence, why I started the channel. And as I mentioned in one of our most recent episodes, all of this talking has been extremely therapeutic for me. And as much as I hate to admit it, I have COVID-19 to thank for this opportunity.

A Sense Of Community Is Reborn!

When the first few cases of COVID-19 were announced across Canada and all the hoarders starting rushing to the stores to stock up on toilet paper and canned goods, I was absolutely disgusted and mortified with how selfish and uncaring people could be. However since that time, I’ve witnessed a sense of compassion and caring within my own community and other communities across the globe in which I’ve never seen before. Not only are people working together, they are helping eachother. Young and healthy people are buying groceries and picking up prescriptions for the elderly and sick who are asked to stay inside at all times. Thousands of people are cheering from their balconies each evening to pay their gratitudes and respect to the Health Care Workers who are putting their own health on the line each and everyday during COVID-19. Thousands of people are starting to donate blood now more than ever because they realize how important this service still is. True leaders are being born!

Reinventing Oneself

I have to tell you that one of the few good things about not having to go into work right now is that I don’t have to wake up at 4:45am each morning anymore. However I still do continue to wake up early (5:45am) and still make sure to stick to my regular morning routine. I still answer emails from clients, I still update all of our Social Media Platforms each day, and I still continue to release informative health and fitness content on a regular basis.

As for the hours that I would normally spend working on the floor with clients? Well, I’ve decided to dedicate those hours into reinventing myself and my business. I’ve been working on our website. I’ve been rearranging and cleaning up our gym (with no one else there, what better time to do it?!?). And I’ve been studying the market more than ever looking for my next possible opportunity. I’m not and never will be one to do the entire “Netflix & Chill” thing. I like to stay busy and keep my mind active and fresh. Just because my current situation has temporarily changed for the worst, does not mean that I myself have to change for the worst along with it.

The Future Remains Uncertain

We’re told that for now, during COVID-19, that the future remains uncertain. However, the future has always remained uncertain. No one knows when their time will come to leave this planet and financial security is something that is promised to very few of us anyways. Therefore I’m not going to sit around stressing about the things that I cannot control. Instead, I’m just going to focus on bettering myself each and everyday to the best of my ability.

COVID-19 Might Have Hurt Me, But I Will Be Damned If I Let It Break Me!

Yours in Good Health,

Nick Cosgrove
