Expert - "A person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of skill in a particular area"...........
I've never viewed myself as an "Expert" when it comes to diet, training and supplementation. I mean, I know alot about training, and I understand the science behind nutrition and dietary supplements, however never would I go as far as to suggest that I'm an expert in these fields. And even though I am a fully licensed and insured Personal Trainer, with over twenty years of experience working within the health and fitness industry, I don't feel confident enough in my own skill set to make claims of being an expert within my career of choice. I'm still learning and my philosophy on diet and exercise continues to evolve as more information, studies, and educational material, are released.
Therefore, with all that said, you can understand my hesitation to make bold statements claiming that I am an expert in my field and know more about building muscle and burning fat, than my competitors do. However, if after these same twenty years of helping hundreds of people transform their physiques and better their health, I still don't feel confident to suggest that my training and dieting methods are in fact "The Best", than I'm perplexed as to what gives some people who've been doing the same job as me for a quarter of the amount of time that I've been doing it, the audacity to make these claims and statements about themselves.
And now I'm left to wonder - Do these very same people with less experience and less education, somehow know more about diet, training and supplementation than me? Are my methods outdated? Are my theories no longer relevant? Is my time as a Personal Trainer/Online Coach about to expire?
As a Personal Trainer / Online Coach, I've always been very careful to not overpromise anything to my clients. In fact, I don't promise them anything at all. In an industry that is built on lies, sleazy sales tactics, misconceptions, and false hopes, I prefer to remain honest with our clientele base. And although I don't make promises on what type of results a person should expect to achieve while working with our team of Trainers, I do guarantee them that we will provide them with the absolute best care and quality customer service.
It's no secret that life can be expensive. The cost of living has risen dramatically over the past few years. With inflation on the rise and the economy going through so much uncertainty, how can the average person be expected to save for retirement while living a somewhat comfortable lifestyle and raising a family at the same time?
Residing in Vancouver for over a two decades now, I consider myself extremely fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. With the beach, the night life and the mountains literally all at my doorstep, there is no other place I would rather be. Not to mention the weather. Coming from back east, trust me when I tell you that I will take the rain over the snow ANY DAY. However having all these luxuries comes at a price, and the bill is a fairly steep one. As expensive as Vancouver is, it can actually become even more costly if you're a health freak and/or gym junkie such as myself. Walk into any Whole Foods or Choices Grocery Store and get ready to easily throw down $20.00 for a 6oz free range chicken breast and pint size organic sweet potato. So exactly how does a fitness fanatic working with a tight budget, survive in a big ticket city that can be extremely overpriced at times?
I want to be rich, but I don’t want to work.
I want to lose fat, but I don’t want to diet.
I want to build muscle, but I don’t want to train.
I want to be healthy, but I don’t want to exercise.
I want to be in a relationship, but I don’t want to give up my freedom.
I want to have kids, but I don’t want to make sacrifices.
I want to live a better life, but I don’t want to make any changes.
Wouldn’t life just be so much easier, if we all stopped making excuses and were just honest with ourselves?
As a Personal Trainer, I’ve heard just about every single excuse as to why someone “cannot” do something. And rarely if ever, has the excuse been a valid one. In my opinion, if a person really wants to accomplish something, then he or she will do whatever it takes to achieve that goal.
