Summer Time Temptations

Drinks on patios with colleagues after work.

BBQs in the backyard with family on the weekend.

Parties full of bad choices on the beach with friends.

The summer season is officially here!

Summer is by far my favourite season of the year. At the same time, summer is also my most unproductive season of the year. With many clients away on vacation, our business is a little bit on the slower side during July and August. A slower business usually means later start times for me in my day-to-day operations. Later start times equate to later nights out. And later nights out lead to….well, you get the idea.

Summer Temptations

As disciplined as I like to think I am with my workouts, diet and business, even I have my slip-ups from time to time. And although I’ve never missed a group class or client’s training session due to a hangover, I’ve missed my fair share of my  workouts due to poor choices made from the night(s) out prior. I’ll be honest when it comes to summer, I find it challenging not to give in to life’s little temptations. I want to work less, play more, go to bed late and wake up even later. And the warm weather combined with the additional hours of sunlight only enhances the entire experience.

Summer Training Tips

As someone who works in the Fitness Industry, I suppose I should be providing you with some tips to remain focused and on track with your health and fitness goals this summer season. I could tell you to take advantage of the warm weather and get outside and get active. You could go swimming, bike riding, hiking, rollerblading, or simply just go on a few long walks with a friend.

I could also tell you that you most likely know all this right now and don’t require these ridiculous and redundant summer training tips that we see posted time and time again by other fitness professionals and enthusiasts.

Therefore rather than provide you with even more generic training tips on how you can stay fit and active this summer season, I will refrain and leave you with this:

Life is short and summer is even shorter. Go outside and be active. But also make time for those drinks on the patio. Have fun at those backyard BBQs. And allow yourself to make a few bad choices (as long as those choices don’t hurt anyone or hurt yourself).
