Cardio – How Much Is Too Much?

Walk into any commercialized gym in the month of January and I can almost guarantee you that the most busiest part of the gym will be the cardiovascular section. Sure the weight rooms can get a bit busy, and we all know that your average Iron Virgin is going to stay close to the weight machines, rather than the free weights. However for the most part, the cardio equipment is almost always in use during this time of year.

But why is that? I mean is cardiovascular training more effective than resistance training when it comes to overall health and body recomposition?

OFCOURSE NOT!!!!

Yet, there are still many people out there that believe the best and most efficient way to lose body fat is by doing as much cardio as they possibly can.

Well technically they are not completely wrong. However, they are just making their weight loss journey that much more challenging on themselves by adopting this "More Cardio Is Better" attitude.

The Power Of Protein Powder

Earlier this week I posted a story on my Instagram account of my most recent trip to Costco where I purchased 12 x 2kg tubs of Whey Isolate Protein Powder. As expected, I received quite a bit of comments and questions with regards to my extravagant protein purchase, many of which I would like to address today. However before I get into this week's blog, I just want to state for the record that I AM NOT sponsored by any supplement companies and therefore you can trust that any suggestions and recommendations that I make are completely unbiased and based purely on my own experience as well as through the experience of my clients who I've worked with over the years.

Clickbait

Clickbait - A form of false advertisement which uses hyperlink text or a thumbnail link that is designed to attract attention and entice users to follow that link and read, view, or listen to the linked piece of online content, with a defining characteristic of being deceptive, typically sensationalized or misleading........

"Jump Start The New Year And See Results!" (Input photo of man with bulging biceps).

"New Year, New Bod: 5 Fitness Trends That Will Shape 2020!" (Input photo of woman with ripped abs).

Every year, I receive countless emails from graphic designers, social media marketers, and web developers, asking me if we would be interested in using their advertising services to promote our business online. And even though I understand that marketing and advertising a product and/or service is essential in order for that product and/or service to successfully grow, I don't want to use complete strangers to promote what we offer. And what we offer is a valuable, professional, reputable, educational, and life changing service. And we don't devalue ourselves or try and manipulate potential clients to purchasing our services by using cheesy generic New Year's sales tactics in order to make a few quick bucks. Quite frankly, if someone is willing to put their own service on sale due to a particular time of year or seasonal change, then wouldn't it beg the question as to just how valuable that service truly is throughout the remainder of the year?

Are Your Relationships Compromising Your Health?

A few months ago we had a new potential client come down to our Training Facility to meet with me for a consultation. During our consultation the topic of diet and nutrition came up. This particular individual had rated her diet as a 2 out of 10 on the Questionnaire that we ask all new clients to fill out before meeting with us. When I asked our new client as to why she had rated her diet so poorly, she explained to me that her Partner prefers to eat a lot of Fast Food, Take-Out and Junk Food throughout the week. I then asked her if she herself enjoys eating those foods, in which she was quick to reply that she only eats what her Partner eats as its “easy”, “convenient” and “what he enjoys eating”.

At first, I was a bit taken back by this response as I personally would never compromise my own nutritional plan just to appease someone else. If I don’t like a particular food, or a certain meal makes me feel crappy after I eat it, then quite simply, I just don’t incorporate it into my diet.

With that said, I do understand that relationships are all about compromise and sometimes we have to do things that we don’t like or enjoy doing, because we understand that it makes the other person that we are with happy.

However this particular compromise with this woman's diet got me to thinking - How far should we compromise our own health just to make someone else feel good about themselves and be happy?
